Data repository of the gyroscope collection situated at the University of Stuttgart. The data was collected within the Gyrolog Project (2017-2020) funded by the BMBF as a eHeritage digitisation task (funding no. 01UG1774X ).

The data repository is structured by Dataverses for each object located in the Stuttgart collection. Objects from affiliated collections (Munich and Linz) as well as external objects to enhance the collection are grouped in separated Dataverses.

Furthermore one Dataverse for archival sources contained in the gyroscopic collection can be found.

A user frontend and further information about the objects can be found under Goobi portal.

Information about the digitisation strategy for all objects can be found in the documentation dataset: Niklaus, Maria, 2021, "Information about the Gyrolog data repository", doi: 10.18419/darus-821, DaRUS.

For each object, data consist of one or more of the following:

  • general information collected about the object ("Information about ..." dataset)
  • unsorted pictures taken for each object ("2D Pictures ..." datasets)
  • computer tomographic data for interior view of each objects ("3D CT ..." datasets)
  • photogrammetric data for outside view of objects ("3D Photogrammetric ..." datasets) including 3D photogrammetric models
  • endoscopic data for inside view of objects ("3D Endoscopic ..." datasets)
  • integrated model from fusing photogrametric and CT data ("3D Integrated ..." dataset)
  • CSG (Constructive Solid Geometry) model and other files for animation and smartphone applications ("CSG ..." datasets)
