The Using Wood Well (UWW) project investigates the use of timber in construction, with the aim of improving material efficiency and supporting circular economy principles. The project analyses building data at multiple scales, ranging from whole-building timber volumes to frame- and floor-level material composition, and develops metrics for assessing the use of wood and other plant-based materials in construction. The three developed metrics are: Wood Use Intensity (WUI), Use to Renewal Ratio (URR), and Bio-based Percentage (BIO). The project is a collaboration between ICD at the University of Stuttgart, Change Building and Waugh Thistleton Architects and is funded by Built By Nature.

The dataset consists of three related CSV files representing the results of metric development and application on timber buildings within the Using Wood Well project, which brings together a large international sample of building projects. The Level 1 (L1) dataset examines Wood Use Intensity (WUI-Project) across 695 timber building projects from 25...

Campbell, Adrian, 2026, "Assumed Data for Building-Level Use to Renewal Ratio (URR) Assessment", https://doi.org/10.18419/DARUS-6285, DaRUS, V1, UNF:6:nJ9F7oB78uCopW8xU59T9w== [fileUNF]
This dataset provides lookup harvest time period data to support building-level Use-to-Renewal Ratio (URR) assessments for bio-based and other renewable materials. It consists of two main complementary files: a formatted XLSX material group and product lookup table, and a machine-readable CSV containing the lookup data for wood species used in the...
MS Excel Spreadsheet - 26.0 KB - MD5: 047f0e83c086fdc62e6437f06ac750cc
This file contains an overview of Use to Renewal Ratio (URR) values and indicative ranges for a selected number of example materials across a variety of resources and products in construction.
MS Excel Spreadsheet - 21.3 KB - MD5: 053a8c00af8aa0cfe986db801f4b61df
An accompanying file with a glossary describing the fields used in the CSV URR_LookUp_data file, along with an abbreviation list.
Tabular Data - 4.3 KB - 11 Variables, 53 Observations - UNF:6:nJ9F7oB78uCopW8xU59T9w==
This CSV file contains the underlying data used for the building-level URR assessment, specifically covering the wood species represented in the 56 UWW Level 2 timber building case studies. It includes information on biological or wood type, abbreviations, harvest values, material groups, species commonality, product mappings, and notes on data sou...
