Description
| This dataset contains the extracted trajectories from the video data for 17 participants of the Falling Head experiment of the paper "’Falling Heads’: investigating reflexive responses to head-neck perturbations" by Isabell Wochner, Lennart V. Nölle, Oleksandr V. Martynenko and Syn Schmitt. Always cite the paper together with this dataset because this dataset is not self-explanatory.
The kinematics were recorded using a HCC-1000 camera and HCC Control software (VDS Vosskühler GmbH/Germany) at a sampling rate of 462 fps. Three markers were recorded to detect both translational as well as rotational movements of the head. In order to place the markers better and avoid that they are obscured by hair, the participants were asked to wear a swimming cap. Marker 1 was positioned on the sphenoid bone (close to the eyes), Marker 2 was positioned in sight line with a distance of 4 cm to Marker 1, and Marker 3 was attaches such that all three markers form an equilateral triangle. Furthermore, we extracted a fixed point on the neck and chin (necessary for an inverse dynamics analysis). Additionally, the demographic characteristics (gender, age, weight, height and BMI) are provided as .txt file. (2020-10-19) |

Notes
| Note: We provide here the extracted trajectories because the raw videos should never be made accessible without restriction (only available for scientific use). The dataset contains several txt files: For each marker (1,2,3) we extracted the x and y trajectories (over time) in both the supine and prone case. Furthermore, we provide extracted trajectories for a fixed point on the neck and chin (necessary for the inverse dynamics analysis). However, these trajectories (of neck and chin) are noisier due to the lack of actual markers. Note, that the columns contain a header denoting the partipant number (P) and the trial number (T). This means that 'P3_T2' would correspond to the time trajectory of the second trial of the third participant. The columns are separated by commas. Each trajectory contains 150 data points, corresponding to 150 frames (recorded at 462 fps). Furthermore, we provide the time in a separate file (time.txt). The trigger was always released at the 17th frame. All quantities are given in SI-units (e.g. time [s], traj in [m]). The coordinate system of the camera was defined differently than the coordinate system in the publication (x direction defined similar, y direction in direction of gravity, but origin is in the upper left corner). This is only relevant for the moment arm calculation in the inverse dynamics analysis. |
