This dataset provides lookup harvest time period data to support building-level Use-to-Renewal Ratio (URR) assessments for bio-based and other renewable materials. It consists of two main complementary files: a formatted XLSX material group and product lookup table, and a machine-readable CSV containing the lookup data for wood species used in the Using Wood Well project timber building URR calculations.
The XLSX file provides a formatted overview of URR values for a selected number of materials and the indicative ranges across a variety of resources and products. The table of raw materials is organized by regeneration time scale, including regeneration time band and time unit, region, renewal period (low, high, and average), product application, SfB category, average product lifespan based on BUILD 2021, component lifespan based on RICS v2 Table 20, and the calculated indicative Use-to-Renewal Ratio (URR) for each product. The file also includes an example table and a glossary tab containing definitions and references.
The CSV file contains the underlying data used for the building-level URR assessment, specifically covering the wood species represented in the 56 UWW Level 2 timber building case studies. It includes information on biological or wood type, abbreviations, harvest values, material groups, species commonality, product mappings, and notes on data sources and assumptions. This file is also available in XLSX format, with additional tabs including a glossary describing the CSV fields and an abbreviation list provided to support the interpretation and consistent use of the data.
Using Wood Well research project is a collaboration between Change Building, ICD at the University of Stuttgart, and Waugh Thistleton Architects, funded by Built by Nature.
