The dataset consists of three related CSV files representing the results of metric development and application on timber buildings within the Using Wood Well project, which brings together a large international sample of building projects.
The Level 1 (L1) dataset examines Wood Use Intensity (WUI-Project) across 695 timber building projects from 25 countries. It provides a project-level overview of timber construction, enabling comparisons across sectors, structural types, building sizes, and storey counts. Each record represents a single building project and includes information on structural and material characteristics, building geometry and scale, timber volume and area used for metric calculation, as well as contextual attributes such as location, completion year, and sector classification.
The Level 2 (L2) dataset provides a more detailed, frame-level analysis for a subset of 56 projects from the L1 dataset. It focuses on structural system breakdowns and extends the analysis of Wood Use Intensity (WUI-Frame and Floor) to the superstructure only, and typical floor systems. In addition, it includes indicators for Use-to-Renewal Ratio (URR) and bio-based material content (BIO), capturing both material efficiency and circularity-related aspects of the structural systems. The dataset also contains detailed structural and geometric parameters, such as frame type, span, grid spacing, structural depth, and material distributions.
Level 3 (L3) dataset contains data for the Black & White Building, designed by Waugh Thistleton Architects. It includes results of the metric calculation for WUI-Build, total volume and total mass of all bio and non-bio materials, their respective percentages, and the URR results.
Metrics and their application are explained in the listed related publications, see Worked Example of Charlton WorkStack for L2 application.
An indication of the sources is provided for L1 and L2 data, along with a data quality indicator for L2.
