The Institut für Strahlwerkzeuge (IFSW) of the University of Stuttgart, founded in 1986, is reputed as one of the leading laser research centres worldwide. Its strength is based on a holistic research approach covering every aspect from laser sources to their applications and ranging from fundamental investigations to industrial technology transfer. The main activities at the IFSW are currently concerned with selected topics in the fields of laser beam sources (especially the thin-disk laser), optical elements and components for beam delivery and beam shaping as well as fundamental investigations on the light-matter interaction with the subsequent process development of macro and micro applications for industrial manufacturing.

Henn, Manuel; Buser, Matthias; Holder, Daniel; Hagenlocher, Christian; Onuseit, Volkher; Powell, John; Graf, Thomas, 2025, "Video Demonstration of the Combination of Additive and Subtractive Laser Processing for Manufacturing of Small Holes and Narrow Grooves", https://doi.org/10.18419/DARUS-4575, DaRUS, V1
This video illustrates a novel approach combining additive and subtractive laser processes at the layer level (AddSub). This quasi-simultaneous manufacturing process enables the fabrication of small structures with high aspect ratios, including narrow grooves below 50 µm in width. The technique demonstrates significant potential for applications in...

This dataset contains sets of video frames taken from synchrotron x-ray videos of laser drilling with an ultrafast laser in 1.4301 stainless steel. The x-ray videos show the crossectional distribution of material density and thickness in the plane of the borehole axis. Each set is packaged in a multipage tiff file and contains selected video frames...
