Description
| MegaMol is an open-source prototyping framework for the interactive visualization of large particle-based data. Its flexible, modular architecture allows it also to serve as development platform for general visualization research.
As outlined in the proposal, we planned to improve both the development and the user experience of MegaMol in several ways. We aimed to support the development as openly as possible, using as much (publicly) available infrastructure as possible, for both cost optimization and for reducing the impression that MegaMol is a tool for internal use exclusively. We also planned splitting off the stable, open portion of MegaMol from the parts of code used for work-in-progress publications. The second main goal is concerned with the user experience of MegaMol, starting with the simplification of the build and installation process. As the user interface can be overwhelming for end-users, we aimed at enabling a task-specific, targeted UI and easier manipulation of parameters, while still enabling complex analysis of datasets and dataset ensembles for domain-specific questions. Finally, we planned to reflect on the MegaMol project itself and make our findings publicly available.
This poster was presented at the first conference for Research Software Engineers in Germany, the deRSE19 Conference. The conference was held at the Albert Einstein Science Park in Potsdam, Germany, June 4-6, 2019. Presenting the current status of this project during the poster session allowed us to discuss our experiences, plans, and goals for improving the sustainability of MegaMol. (2019-06-10) |
